Can you sell albums under your own label name?

I'm a musician and I wanted to sell CD's of my original music under my own record label. Of course I'll be using my own equipment from home but I was wondering if there is any legal process for CD distribution, or having your own independent record label. I might be over analyzing it but I just wanted to make sure.
