Is he in it for the long run?

i met this guy about three months ago while out of the country. now that we are both back in the states we live 2 hours away, so we have been communicating over email for the past two months. i met him while backpacking. he's a very deep, intellectual, successful, extremely independent, and smart person. he made it clear that he liked me, but in general he is a very flirty person. he opened up about his relationship with his abusive father and we talked about life in general. he keeps talking about wanting to hang out, but he has yet to ask for my number or any of that stuff. he is soo flirty, that i cannot tell if he likes me or just likes flirting with me... any ideas?
