I read that Serpent was the hero and Yahweh is the evil one who wanted to control the world?

I read that Yahweh was an evil God who tried to control power all to himself and have slaves? While serpent was trying to free the humans so they could attain immortality and become Gods like many other Gods at the time? Is that true? So Yahweh is really the evil god who kept humans from reaching Godhood?
